Berkshire raised Kestrel moves north

We monitor some Kestrel nests within our Barn Owl project area. One chick, raised in 2018 in a Bracknell-based nest has turned up, 119 km away, near Worcester.

This recovery follows the long term pattern of some of our birds moving north. Birds ringed in the summer have tracked birds to Derbyshire, Lancashire and southern Scotland and birds ringed in winter in Berkshire have moved on to Derbyshire and Cleveland (The Birds of Berkshire, Second Edition, p208).
